Synopsis:

• Deb was raised 2 miles north of Blair on Hwy 73 (now Hwy 75) on the family farm.  
• Her godparents were "Ben" and Melvern West, good friends of Betty and Merton (her parents).  They lived in Herman.  See census records below.
• Deb attended Cumming City School from kindergarten through 8^th grade (2-room country school).
• Deb graduated 1969 from Blair High School, Blair, Washington County, NE and Hastings College, Hastings, NE from 1969-1973 and 1974-1975, Majors: Religion/Biology.
• She moved to Adelphi, MD (a suburb of Washington, DC) in Jun 1975 and worked for Harry Diamond Laboratories (U.S. Army); National Institute of Education (NIE) from Jul 1976 until Jan 1977; worked for the Naval Sea Systems Command in Crystal City, VA from Jan 1977 until Sep 1979; worked for Army 7^th Signal Command, Ft. Ritchie, MD from Sep 1979 until Mar 1980.
• She moved to Hagerstown, MD in Jul 1977.
• Deb attended Western MD College, Westminster, MD from 1978-80 receiving a M.Ed. in Special Education.

• Dale and Deb met in Davis, WV on Memorial Day Weekend in 1976 in a museum owned by Dale's friends (and friends of Deb's brother-in-law Joe Warman), Joe and Betty McCleary.  The McClearys have since passed away and are buried in the Davis Cemetery.  The museum is now a gift shop and is located at the end of main street, just before the Eagles Club.

• They moved to Center, Ralls County, MO, 25 miles SW of Hannibal in Aug 1980 where they began teaching school - Dale taught 5th grade at New London Elementary School in New London, MO and Deb taught special education at the combined Junior-Senior High School for 4 years (including regular 7th-grade Language Arts for a year) and then taught 6th grade and special education at Center Elementary School in Center.  In 1987, she went to work for the MO State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a Special Education Supervisor for NE MO and began working on her Ph.D. at the University of MO-Columbia.

• Deb and Dale lived about 2 miles outside of Center on 2 acres of rural land where they built a house.

• In 1991, Deb got a job with the MD State Department of Education and they moved first to Randallstown, MD (where Dale taught at a Talmudic Jewish School for half a year) and then to Severn, MD when Dale got a job at Brock Bridge Elementary School.

• In 1993, Deb moved to Anne Arundel County Public Schools as a program manager for Medicaid billing and special education and in 1997, obtained a position as an Education Program Specialist at the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Program.  In 2003, she became a special assistant to the Division Director in the Monitoring and State Improvement Program at the Office of Special Education Programs.

• Dale retired in July 2000 from 33 years of teaching elementary school and presently (2002) worked part-time for RGIS, Inc., doing inventories of stores such as Home Depot, Wal-Mart and K-Mart.  In 2005, he quit RGIS and began working as a volunteer at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) in Edgewater, MD.  He generally works one day a week but sometimes more if they need assistance.  He's a "tree hugger" - working on their canopy project that involves marking trees, laying out experimental plots, measuring the forest canopy, categorizing and measuring leaves in the fall and measuring tree growth.  He loves it.     

• Jeremiah and Katy were active in Lacrosse and Soccer from third through 8th grade and Jeremiah continued with Lacrosse in high school as a varsity goalie, beginning with his freshman year.  Both Jeremiah and Katy obtained jobs at the new Arundel Mills Mall when it opened in November 2000.  Jeremiah has worked at Dairy Queen/Orange Julius and Ben & Jerry's.  Katy has worked at Dairy Queen/Orange Julius, New York Shades, Remomos Restaurant, Chevy's Restaurant and Damon's Grill.  In the fall of 2005, she started a bookkeeping program at Career Blazers Learning Center, Inc. in Washington, DC.  She completed the program in June 2006 with a  3.8 GPA and is working at Subway near Arundel Mills Mall.  She wants to enroll at Phoenix University online for an AA degree in accounting in January 2007.

• Jeremiah graduated from Meade High School in May 2003.  He attended Limestone College in Gaffney, SC for his freshman year, earning a 4.0 GPA.  For 2004-2005, he transferred to Roanoke College in Salem, VA.  He's a declared English-History major.  He's played lacrosse during 2004-2006, and maintained a 3.1 GPA.  He's began as a resident advisor in 2005-2006 in the international residence hall and loves his job.  He's also a founding father of Pi Kappa Phi, Xi Chapter, that was rechartered on the Roanoke campus in the fall 2005.  He was the Chapter Historian - no surprise there! - and in 2006-2007 became the Push American liaison - a result of his summer biking experience.  During the summer of 2006, he participated in a bicycle ride from San Francisco to Washington DC for Push America (see http://www.pushamerica.org) called Journey of Hope - raising money ($5000 per rider) and awareness for people with disabilities.  They rode 4145 miles in 63 days, averaging 70-100 miles per day and then meeting with clients from various disability organizations and participating with them at waterparks, attending ballgames, playing laser tag, bowling, etc.  He wants to ride again in 2007.
