| In the name of God Amen I William Lynch of Greenville District and state of South Carolina being sick and weak of body but of sound mind and disposing memory thanks be to Almight God for his mercies do make this my last will and testament in the manner and form following that is to say revoking all former wills by me heretofore made. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary Lynch for her support and maintainance and the personal estate at her disposal during her life all my plantation and tract of land whereon I now live. All my house hold and kitchen furniture one horse called her riding horse all my stock of cattle hogs and sheep and one Negro woman named Terresa. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elvey Couch fifty dollars. I give and bequeath to my daughter Sinderilla Bell fifty dollars. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Polly Pace fifty dollars. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Charley Terry fifty dollars. The last four legacies if not paid in my life time to be paid out of any money belonging to my estate as I do not consider I have given them as much property as I have given the rest of my children. The balance of my property both real and personal that may remain after the death of wife I will to be equally divided between all my children. I do hereby nominate and appoint my sons John Lynch and Mallikiah Lynch executors to execute this my last will and testament. | Digest of Will of William Lynch Proved by oath of George Salmon and William Lynch, Jan. 7, 1822. Made mar. 21, 1819. Witnesses William and B. Lynch and George Salmon. To wife, Mary, during her lifetime, plantation to be lived on, stock, her riding horse, household goods, etc. and a Negro woman Teressee. To four children, $50.00 each: Elvy Couch, dau., Polly Pace dau., Charley Terry dau.,: if not paid during his lifetime, to be paid out of his estate. He had not given them as much property as the rest of his children. To the remainder of his children (not named) the residue of his estate, which he termed "the rest of my estate." On Aug. 1, 1831 the widow, Mary Lynch was dead and John & Malichi, as heirs, petitioned for division of the estate of William Lynch. Listed as out of state heirs were William Lynch, Tho. Couch and Elvy his wife; Benjamin Mahaney and Clarissa, his wife; James Bell and Cinderella, his wife. |

| Signing the agreement for the division and sale of the real estate, in 1831, were: Francis Pace, Polly Pace, Malichi Lynch, David Terry, Charlotte Terry, John Lynch & Malichi Pickett. The name of Thos. Couch appears on the summons to the heirs Aug. 1, 1831, with Elvey, his wife; Francis Pace & Mary his wife; William Lynch; David Terry & Charlotte his wife; Benjamin Mahaney & Clarissa, his wife; James Bell and Cinderella, his wife; recorded in Land Book A., p. 45. Personal estate was ordered sold Aug. 1, 1831, and sales listed, including the usual farm and household articles of that time, and according to the custom of selling all personal estate and dividing it between the heirs. Among things listed were: cutting knife, iron bread tray, reap hooks, saddle, bee gum, jugs, pot rack, "bason", pewter, cupboard etc. At the sale Ben Lynch bought the negro woman for $71.37. William Neves bought spoon "moles", ladle, pot & hook, iron wedge, a chest, a wheel, sugar and bread dishes and a bread waiter. In the executor's return, signed by John Lynch, funeral expenses were listed as $2.00 and $5.50 for "shrouding". Final settlement showed that land tax of $2.18 was paid; also $50.00 to Thomas Couch. There was $156.31 to be distributed in eight equal parts, each heir receiving $19.53. This was filed Jan. 27, 1834 byJohn Lynch |
