| Junior was a recipient of the Bronze Star, Korean War Service Medal, and 48th Field Artillery Battalion Commendation Medal. He fought in many battles; among them were Heartbreak Ridge and Pork Chop Hill. Movies have been made about both battles. The background of this page is part of the mountains known as Heartbreak Ridge. Junior said the weather was bitter cold in the mountains. His coat was reversible to white, which made it harder for the enemy to see him in the snow. He did his basic training at Ft. Chaffee, AR. He was trained as a gunner on Howitzers and Airborne Artillery. After about 2 months in Korea, Junior worked doing Reconnaissance Missions. Between missions, he still worked as a gunner. |
