| SAMUEL SHIPLEY Two Samuel Shipleys have been combined as one in the book "Shipleys of Maryland". Wills of the two prove otherwise. Samuel Shipley b. 11 Aug 1752 Baltimore Co. Md. was the son of Samuel Shipley and Martha Leatherwood. He mar. ca. 1771 to Violet_____. He died 1796 in Mason Co. KY. His children were Noah, Reazon, Peter, Ann, and (Susannah???). In the Mason Co. Ky Will Book A, page 136, dated April 23, 1796, Samuel Shipley left widow named Violet. Children mentioned in his will were Noah, Reazon, Peter, and daughter Ann Williams. He also left items to a Susanna Oc (Orr or Ogg) "at her marriage". Noah and Reazon were executors of his will. Mason Co. Ky. Court Records: Samuel Shipley's son Noah mar. Anne Reed Feb. 5, 1796 . Samuel Shipley(father of Samuel Shipley b. 1752) named his grandson Noah Shipley, son of Samuel Shipley in his 1780 will. |

Samuel Shipley, b. 1751, Baltimore Co. Md., was the son of Benjamin Shipley and Kitty Hawks. He married 21 Oct 1784 to Keturah Sutton. He died 25 Feb 1839 Monroe Co. Ky. children were: Rueben, Joseph, Christopher, Samuel, Benjamin, Prudence, Keturah, Ruth, Dorcus, William, Thomas, Susan and Asa. This Samuel Shipley served in the Revolutionary War from June 3, 1778 to March 1779. In his pension application of 1831 he was about age 80, and lived in Monroe Co. Ky. Power of Attorney, dated 28 August 1816, Barren Co. KY.: "Samuel Shipley of Barren Co. Ky. appoints his beloved son Joseph Shipley as his "true and lawful attorney" to recover from the administrators of the heirs of Joseph Sutton, decd, late of Baltimore County & State of Maryland, all of the estate or money owed to his wife Caturah Shipley, daughter of the said Joseph Sutton, deceased. Samuel Shipley was in Barren Co. Ky until at least 1817 where his son Rueben married Nancy Bailey on July 26, 1817. Samuel and Rueben Shipley were both in the Monroe Co. Ky census by 1820. |
