| These huge ferns grow on the south side of Black Fork Mt. in a place called Coker Flat. A crystal clear spring bubbles up out out the mountain side and keeps the ferns watered. As the water runs out, it leaves a white residue on the bottom of the spring, which resembles lime. The water runs down the mountain side for about 15 feet, then disappears into another opening in the ground. A few feet from the spring, the ferns begin to get smaller. They appear to be the same species of fern, but the ones near the spring have fronds 6-7 feet tall, and the 'normal' sized ferns are about 1-2 feet tall. |
