Study Guide
Directions: Study the following terms in preparation for a test. 1. Boolean operator�a word or symbol that narrows a search like and, or or not 2. Search engine�a software program that searches the Web and indexes home pages 3. Domain name-name given to a computer on the Internet so one computer can find another(e.g. military Web site (.mil), noncommerical Web site (.org), commercial Web site (.com), government Web site (.gov), network Web site (.net) 4. Hyperlink�appears as underlines or colored text or as a graphic that when clicked, takes you to a new Web page 5. Home page�start of any Web site 6. Web browser�a software program that displays info from the Internet 7. World Wide Web (www)�pages on the Internet that are linked around the world 8. Internet Explorer�Web browser that comes with the Office suite 9. Downloading�process of copying files from the Internet to your own computer 10. URL�Uniform Resource Locator (what you type in the address bar) 11. Favorites folder�folder that you save Web sites that you would like to revisit 12. Directory�displays information by major topic headins which are broken down into smaller topics that are then broken down further |
