Study the following vocab words for an on-line test.
WORD PROCESSING STUDY GUIDE PERFORMANCE BASICS--LESSON 1
1. Task Pane--appears on the right side of the document window on startup, and shows options pertinent to the task at hand. To display when not showing, click VIEW, TASK PANE.
2. Help--you can get help from the Office Assistant, the Help Window, and the Ask a Question box (this one will ultimatley bring you to the Help Window)
3. Office Assistant--an animated graphic that provides Help topics and tips on tasks you perform as you work. It will appear only when the user requests help or when help seems necessary. You can customize the Office Assistant.
4. Desktop--the area that displays programs and file icons. The desktop can be customized to include icons you use most frequently.
5. Title bar--located at the top of the application window and displays the document name followed by the program name.
6. Shortcut menu--appears when you press the right mouse button and will vary depending on where the mouse is pointing and what task you are performing.
7. Status bar--located at the bottom of the window and displays information about the current status of the document. The information shown on the status bar depends on the application that is open.
8. Menu bar--located below the title bar and displays items that you select to execute commands.
9. Taskbar--displays the Start button, the Quick-launch Toolbar, as well as open documents and programs.
10. Standard and Formatting toolbars--give you quick access to features you use frequently.
11. Scroll bars--located at right and bottom of window to display areas of the screen that are not in view.
12. Restore button--returns a minimized window to its previous size.
13. Status bar--displays information about the current status of the document (e.g., line number).
14. Minimize button--reduces the window to a button on the Taskbar.
15. Maximize button--replaces the Restore button and returns the document to its full size.
16. Default--preset settings within each application.
17. Check mark--next to a menu item indicates the option is currently selected.
18. Arrow--next to a menu item indicates a submenu will follow.
19. Ellipsis points (...) --next to a menu item indicates that a dialog box will be forthcoming
20. Hyperlink--an underlined word that provides a shortcut to other information.
