Study Guide
Directions: Study the following terms in preparation for a test. 1. Serif--character with a small stroke on the edge. Use a serif font for the main text of documents --it is easier to read. 2. Sans serif--characters that are straight-edged. Use a sans serif font for titles. 3. Watermark--a lightned image that can be added to a document to add visual interest. A watermark can be added in the header/footer view or print layout view. 4. Cell--the intersection between a row and a column in a table 5. Template--a preformatted document layout that can be used again and again. Templates can be used over and over. Templates can be customized and changed. 6. Baseline--imaginary horizontal line on which text rests 7. Type style--changing the look of a font by applying effects such as bold and italics 8. Font--typeface ina specific size and style 9. Three characteristics of a font�typeface, type style, and type size 10. Proportional--typeface that allots a varying amount of space to each character 11. x-height--height of lowercase x 12. Point--approximately 1/72 of an inch and way to express font size. 13. Readability--the ease with which a person can read and understand groups of words 14. Descenders--parts of characters that extend below the baseline 15. Ascenders--parts of lowercase characters that rise above the x-height |
