In Memory of Audrey
I was honored to speak at my dear friend Audrey's funeral. We were friends for 13 years.
We encouraged each other, worried over our families, and shared lots of laughter.
(Not to mention recipes, see the recipe page for one of Audrey's recipes)
Audrey had a green thumb, a wonderful sense of humor, a Christian spirit, great compassion,
and she believed in standing up for what was right.
She valued something as small as a sparrow nest-building on her porch,
or a bag of fabric scraps donated to
"Granny Comfort".
I would like to give a heartfelt
"Thank You" to everyone that donated to her over the years.
She took your giving spirit, and passed it along many times over!

Audrey had physical pain, but was not one to sit and complain; instead she took out her needle and thread and started a project for another in need.
Someone only had to ask, and she would freely donate her time and heart to help.
She was slow and steady, taking one small step at a time, but always on-ward marching, never quitting, giving kindness & compassion to others.
A friend of hers told me about a terminally ill young man of this community who needed money to go to another city for treatment,
but didn't have the funds to travel to get that treatment. They spoke to Audrey, and in no time she whipped up a quilt to donate.
When they held a benefit supper they had a quilt raffle too,
and this man was able to spend another year with his wife and children because of Audrey Wisdom's help. Imagine that.

She never looked at what she did not have; she named her blessings and overlooked her problems.
She witnessed for God every day in some way, and showed us the best of humanity by her selfless actions.

Audrey's "life-book" would teach us to be humble, to give, to reach out to others, and to keep going....
no matter the obstacles, no matter the pain or disappointments, no matter our financial situation, or whether we got a pat on the back.

If this little Grandma could give so much, imagine how much we might do if we took a small step to help another.
The community has lost a splendid example of how to live a good and upstanding life.

We bid her farewell, we will miss her beautiful spirit, but she is in a better place.

If you want to honor and give tribute to Audrey's life, then try to live a good life,
think of others less fortunate, and then
"Do Something About It"
Audrey worked for many years as a mental health advocate for the local MHMR.
She was known as "Granny Comfort" because she devoted years of giving to her family,
friends and the community.
She worked tirelessly making and donating caps for cancer patients, and comfort quilts for children in trauma.
She made over 140 quilts for an Indian mission in Mexico.
She participated in bake sales, and made quilts for raffles to help others.
Her loving spirit will be greatly missed.
