Pictures From My Garden  2007
"The Dortmund"
An antique climbing rose. I am trying to start cuttings from
this rose, so cross your fingers!
Introduced in 1955,  Dortmund rose has single red petals surrounding yellow stamens,
and is gorgeous!
Believed to be "Karl Forster" spinosissima, bred
in Germany in 1931. Mild fragrance.
Travis planted all the
roses completely organic.
The best thing about having antique roses is
that you do not have to pamper them much....
they are extremely hardy, drought and disease
resistant, and last for years.
"The Bishop"  (this is not the Bishop Darlington)
A centifolia, or cabbage rose, it dates at least to early 1900's. Travis grew this from a cutting taken from the Perryman Cemetary. It blooms in spring, and the roses have a strong spicey fragrance. Unknown origins.
"Buff Beauty"
Light apricot in
color, with a heavy rose fragrance.
Introduced by the
UK in 1939.
Coming Soon: "Seven Sisters"
a centifolia rambler introduced from China in 1817.
Antique Roses
..
"The Ballerina" musk shrub rose, with small single petaled flowers. Introduced in the UK in 1937. Prolific bloomer. Supposed to be disease resistant, but mine has spots on the leaves, as seen in the pic.
Baby Cardinals
In a rambler rose bush by the front porch. Sadly they were abducted by
an unknown critter the day after this pic.

"Veilchenblau"
From Germany, 1909.
Sometimes called the Blue Rambler, although to me, the rose is more purple than blue... Blooms once a year, in spring, and is loaded with blooms.
I have to prop it up it is so heavy!
Green apple fragrance. Trying to propagate aroses so I can share with others....
"Zowie" Zinnia
I found this eye popper at Home Depot, and had
to have it. The colors are bright and intense, with a
hot pink center, melting to orange, then into a bright yellow. Have to save the seeds from this beauty, so hopefully I will have more than one next year!
