SUGAR COOKIES

1 cup butter or margarine
1-1/2 cups pwd. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2-1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar

Cream butter. Mix in egg and vanilla.
Add dry ingredients and mix well.
Chill dough for easier handling (2-3 hrs.)
Roll out 3/16-inch thick. Cut with cookie cutters.
Place on cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
When cool, frost with Icing.

ICING
2 cups pwd. sugar
milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla

In a mixing bowl measure powdered sugar.
Add milk gradually while stirring, till mixture
is the consistency of a thin glaze.
Add vanilla.
Blend well.
Food coloring may be added, if desired.
