| When I arrived in Detroit I had about 9 hours to kill in the airport until my Dad (and ride) arrived. Gotta love priceline though for getting me a round trip ticket from Detroit in 1 day's notice for $140! Instead of waiting around Detroit Metropolitan Airport, I decided to have some fun, so I took the bus downtown Detriot via Michigan Avenue! I went to Greektown, the Greek Casino (won $80 in slots), reminisced and ate at the New Hellas Cafe (Greek Food, home of the original Opa' in Detroit!), rode the Peoplemover around the empty city, and bussed back in time to meet my dad. Along the way I saw the new Comerica Stadium where a Tigers game was just starting. I was surprised at how empty downtown was; I know Boston would have been completely packed on game days! |
| I was able to visit Uncle Hazen, Uncle Arnie and Aunt Patty for lunch, and fix cousin Roberta's computer with Dad during wonderful visits! Staying with Goldie, Rejean, Daniel, and Janna was a treat, meeting their new friends, pets, and eating awesome food. Goldie is a terrific cook and they were all terrific hosts! I especially appreciated the time they spent showing me their albums of photos from overseas and all of the travel advice they gave. Also, their enthusiasm for Antique shopping was shared with us in Ann Arbor. Woodward Street Dream Cruise!!! We went Friday night and met cousins Lois, Ken and Don and watched and walked and drooled over amazing cars. I took photos and will post them, but for now, just check the web link above showing loads of fun. We also went for about 5 hours Saturday morning between 10 1/2 mile and 11 1/2mile and back again, visiting cousin Gerald & Anne, Suzy & Noah and Aunt Patty and Aaron! Aunt Mina's 90th Birthday party was packed with relatives that I hadn't seen in years! The trip out to Harbor Beach was fun and reminded me of Maine. I liked the color coded T-shirts that the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generations below Aunt Mina were wearing! Gerat idea! The strangest thing that happened during the whole trip was that cousin Doug was burning what he called a Glow Stick in the bonfire - turned the flames a really cool green and blue color, sometimes purple! For a long time! I couldn't believe the fumes... We stopped by the neighborhood where we used to live in 1973-1979 and it looked terrific! Very well kept! I was amazed to see and hear that 100 condos were going up behind our house where there used to be a field. We visited the Detrich's across the street and had a nice visit seeing all of the photos of their family. It was great to reconnect with Kim and meet Randy during a short visit to their wonderful house, and meet Carmen and their dog Sadie! Don't worry, I'll post photos as soon as I get them. Another family reunion was held at a Chinese Restaurant with the Berman side of the family. It was good to meet so many nice people and see some faces that I hadn't in a long time. The day before I left Goldie and Rejean took Dad and I out in their boat on Orchard Lake. What fun and relaxation. |
