Here is the information about the Red Scarf Project that I was talking about. and a link to the page. Red Scarf Project.

What is the Red Scarf Project?

The Red Scarf Project, a project of the Orphan Foundation of America, or Orphan.org, collects red (and other unisex-colored) scarves to send in Valentine's Day care packages to college students who have aged out of foster care. These brave young people are going it on their own and trying to improve their lives and the community by attending college. The care packages are welcome tokens of encouragement to young people who otherwise receive little to no mail. Your scarf should be soft (any material), unisex design, and approximately 60 inches long by 5 to 8 inches wide. Machine washable is a plus, but it is not absolutely necessary. Please read all the info in this blog. Most of your questions will be answered here. If you still have questions after reading it all, then feel free to email me.

When and Where Should I Mail My Scarves

Please mail packages in January 2007 (NOT before, due to space considerations).

I guess I should tell you a little bit about myself. I am a 44 almost 45 year old married lesbian who has 14 year old twins. We live in the Merrimack Valley part of Massachusetts. I married my wife in June of this year after reconnecting with her in April after a 15 year seperation. I work in the bio-tech industry as a support staff person and I hope through this blog to at least keep you entertained.

Last night a group of us got together to knit as we do every Thursday night. I am currently working on a scarf for the red scarf knit along. Only problem is that my scarf is black....I know, why if it is a red scarf knit along am I doing a black one? Well it is like this, this knit along benefits college age kids who have aged out of the foster care system. It is a way to show them that people do still care. So...it is for guys and gals...now I don't know that many 18, 19 year old boys but I was thinking that maybe they might like a scarf that is not red and because I wanted to deplete my stash, I chose black wool the I purchased at the JCA Reynolds sale 2 years ago. I think that it will be just fine. My friend Julie (who has the greatest blog) Julie's Blog, has graciously offered me the use of her older digital camera so that I can add photos to this experiment. So when I finish the red/black scarf I will post a picture of it.

Other things on the needles are my darling wife's socks from Malabrigo and my daughter's terminal sweater from Misty Baby Chunky Alpaca.

Well here is my first blog entry! HURRAY! I have joined my many friends who entertain us with their daily activities. Here you will find all of the interesting things that Mary, Kelsie, Jared, Harry and Doug (cats) and I do. I may not post every day....my life is certainly not that interesting but I will try and do it at least once a week. SOOOOOOOO what has gone on this week.. I met some friends of Mary's from NC, Art and Betty - they are lovely. We had some great crab ragoons made from fresh crab from off their dock - Thank you Betty and Fran my wonderful m-i-l for suppling the receipe, which I will share with you all tomorrow. I also finished a scarf for my s-i-l, that she asked me for on Christmas. I am planning on making a red scarf for the red scarf project and finishing my dw's socks.

The picture that I have included is exactly what my cats (mostly Doug) like to do with my yarn - so first they cat-in-ize it and then I knit it...that way we keep it all in the family.
