| SFO 2005-2006 Season Le Nozze Di Figaro |
|
This is the Zach Brown production I have seen before, most recently in
San Francisco. Thought dreary by many (but not me), it consists of four
complete sets, all of them three-dimensional representations of period
Spanish interiors and interiors. There is more than a little suggestion
of the paintings of Goya. The Act III set is especially attractive with its literal representation of a Spanish courtyard, complete with arcades and a filigreed iron gate through which the light of the setting sun comes, bathing everything in the sort of light one see in canvases of the "Old Masters."(Review) |

| His most recent designs for the Company were seen in the new staging of Don Carlo in 1998 (costumes). Additional SFO credits have been Le Nozze di Figaro ('82, '86, '91, '97), La Forza del Destino ('92), Rossini's Otello ('94), and, during the 1996-97 season, Prince Igor (sets/costumes), Lohengrin (sets) and Les Contes d'Hoffmann (selected principal costumes) |

| For this event I appear the sumptuous and elegant production, as i like clothes designed originally by Zach Brown for Opera de Washington (Review-Otello) |

| HELLO - Why does the SFO website not give credit to Zach Brown for these sets under - PRODUCTION ?- I think there is enough room. Perhaps it was an oversight. |
| Mansouri's direction, makes the most of the opera's darker undercurrents and inhabits Zack Brown's eye-catchingly beautiful, realistic sets (subtly lit by Thomas J. Munn) with cunning and ease.-Review |
