Another Texas company that has been giving excellent performances for the last few years is the Dallas Opera which presented Verdi's Luisa Miller on January 7. This spare San Francisco production with sets by Michael Yeargan was conceived by Francesca Zambello. It was directed in Dallas by Christian Rth who presented the story with effective blocking. The costumes by Dunya Ramicova established the time as mid 19th century, but were not always flattering to the singers.-Review
Costume designer DUNYA RAMICOVA has designed over 200 productions for theater and opera in the United States and Europe. Among her opera designs are I Lombardi at the Metropolitan Opera, Alcina and Mathis der Maler at Covent Garden, Die Zauberflte and Theodora at the Glyndebourne Festival, Messiaen's Saint Franois d'Assise for the Salzburg Festival, in addition to La Clemenza di Tito for Houston Grand Opera and San Francisco Opera (mounted by the Company in 1993). She has also designed costumes for John Adams's Nixon in China and The Death of Klinghoffer (the latter served as the vehicle of her 1992 SFO debut). Her most recent projects include Ah, Wilderness at New York's Lincoln Center and La Clemenza di Tito for New York City Opera.
