| This was the 21st year for the Isadora Duncan Dance Awards, or Izzies, but the third year for the Bay Area Dance Awards, which revitalized the honors via a partnership between Bay Area National Dance Week and the Web site Voice of Dance. Celebrity was plentiful, with former San Francisco Ballet principal Joanna Berman and modern dance veteran Frank Shawl serving as masters of ceremonies. COMPANY PERFORMANCE San Francisco Ballet Artifact Suite, William Forsythe* San Francisco Ballet Glass Pieces, Jerome Robbins The nominees were a motley bunch; where else but in the Bay Area could the San Francisco Ballet go up against a Mexican folklorico troupe, Los Lupenos de San Jose, and a Middle Eastern/North African ensemble, Zooz Dance Company? S.F. Ballet won in that category, taking home the Izzie for company performance for the corps' go-for-broke commitment in William Forsythe's "Artifact Suite." ENSEMBLE PERFORMANCE Katita Waldo and Ruben Martin Glass Pieces, San Francisco Ballet Vanessa Zahorian and Gonzalo Garcia Rubies, San Francisco Ballet MUSIC / SCORE / TEXT Ken Goldberg, Randall Packer and Gregory Kuhn Ballet Mori, San Francisco Ballet* UC Berkeley engineering Professor Ken Goldberg and collaborators Randall Packer and Gregory Kuhn won the music/score/text category for "Ballet Mori," a solo that harnessed real-time seismic readings for its soundtrack. Goldberg thanked "three forces of nature": star ballerina Muriel Maffre, wife and Webby Awards founder Tiffany Shlain and Mother Nature. RESTAGING / REVIVAL / RECONSTRUCTION Jean-Pierre Frohlich, restaging Afternoon of a Faun, San Francisco Ballet SUSTAINED ACHIEVEMENT Honorees Helgi Tomasson - 20 years as Artistic Director, San Francisco Ballet* Other sustained achievement awards went to S.F.
