| From On Music in Student Who? School friends Ross Thorburn (guitar, vocals and bass), Jason Blyth (Drums, keys and vocals) and Andy MacLoed (bass, backing vocals and hammer), two thirds of whom are now at university in Edinburgh. The Pitch? Debaser are the definition of a DIY student indie band. They may not be entirely confident in their abilities but they're going for it nonetheless. The Sound? "We're a funky alternative electro lo-fi power pop rock trio" they say. Phew. The CDs reveal tender little guitar songs with occasional forays into electronic beats. Influences? Unclear. "Jason likes the Bare Naked Ladies but the rest of us hate them" says Ross among mensions of Pilotcam, The Waterboys and the ubiqutous Manics. Gigs? A handful so far in Dundee, Perth, Heriott Watt and the Bongo Club ("a disaster"). Now working at improvement and looking for some shows in the Easter Holidays. Where Can We Hear It? Their self produced mini-album "it's far too easy to get things right" is available in Avalanche on Cockburn Street for 99p and another, "Thirty fingers" is comming soon. from 6/2/02 |
