it's far too easy to get things right
From "La Realistica" (online fanzine) - Aug 2001

This minialbum was recorded at Unit 31 in Almondbank so I will assume that debaser are from Perth.  The band are Ross, Andy, Mikee and Jason and the CD is released on munkeerecordings.

The first track on this album is "This is Not Clever" and is without a doubt one of the standout tracks.  A catchy rock instrumental that will have you viciously swinging your head to and fro to the pounding drums and vitalic guitar strums.

Next on the chopping block is the misguidingly titled "Fuck You".  I thought that this would be another rock number but was surprised to find that it was a rather angelic bitter love song.  The basic gist is that the guys girlfriend can get to France for breaking this young gentleman's heart.  In fairness to Debaser this is one of the most beautiful (lost) love songs I have had the pleasure to listen to this year.  The only instrument in this tune is an acoustic guitar, but it doesn't seem to matter as the lead singer sounds like an American Jason Pierce.  So all you need to do is lay back smoke a joint and enjoy the soft cool calm that is "Fuck You".

Track three on the CD is "Shutdown" which, like track one, is a rock instrumental.  The sample at the start of this song says "just basically plug the fucker in and make the sounds happen", and they do.

The first three tracks on this recording are, in this reviewers opinion, the best.  The last few songs on the minialbum are "Love Song", "Where Did The Time Go?" and "Acoustic Song".  "Love Song" is a catchy tune with no real depth to it, it's a bit too pop.  "Where Did The Time Go?" and "Acoustic Song" almost at times seem like carbon copies of "Fuck You", but they lack the amusing bitterness of the latter.

All in all debaser have produced a nice little album with some lovely and rocking tracks, but their songs seem to miss the presence of a forceful lead guitar.  The familiar nature of some of the tracks let the CD down, but when all is said and done "Its far too easy to get things right" is a decent recording by a band who show lots of potential.
