| From bulaka Struggling to hear for the poor sound quality of this cd. as my ears grow accustomed to the fuzziness though, there is the suggestion that this bad might be pretty good. there's a feeling of deja vu (or it's oral equivalent) keep thinking i'm back in the mid nineties, only in america, but that's not to say the actual songs are unoriginal, it's just what you might call a nice nostalgic feeling. a notably funny little number is scarlet fever, involving a piano intro which can not fail to summon the strains of easy like sunday morning to anyone's memory; and strange lyrics such as: "...this girl came round to mine i offered her some coffee but she said no i'd rather have wine we had about ten bottles of it then we called it a night i took her to my bedroom and boy did she get a fright" hmmm, ambiguous you might say. delivered by a slightly weak voice the song still manages to retain it's sense of fun, with continuously amusing/inane lyrics: "and so in the morning i took her into town i thought she looked nice but she looked like a stupid clown" i dunno really. i've lost the thread of his argument, but it's all quite fun and upbeat so that's good. the songs on this mini-album (as they call it on the sleeve) vary in sophistication, and also in length dwelling on the idea, perhaps, of the mini-song. i thought the idea was "three minutes = perfect pop song" etc so is this "three piece funky alternative electro lo-fi power pop rock trio" (their own description) re-setting the parameters and making it "two minutes = perfect pop song"? (only without the perfect.) reminiscent in places of adam sandler's songs. the problem being that he was taking the piss. no no that's maybe a bit harsh. there are some good songs. give it a whirl. they've got potential (that ole chestnut...) |
