Why Adopt?
Why do people adopt?
*Inability to have their own children
*Choose not to have own children due to genetic or medical reasons
*To give a child a family
*To give a child a chance at a better life
*To share what we have with others
*And many other reasons!

Common "objections" to adoption
and our personal view on each question:
Why adopt if you can have your own children?
(Yes, we can have our own children still for those who are wondering!) Because there are many children in the world already who need a good home and hope for a brighter future, and we want to give them the opportunity to have that.

Why spend all that money to adopt?

How much is a child's future worth?  We believe God wants us to use our money for His good purposes - and for us, that includes paying to adopt a child from overseas.  In addition, many people spend at least that much on infertility treatments, if not much more, so it is not that unusual to spend so much money to have a child join a family!

Won't you love your biological child more than your adopted child
?
No, we don't think so!  And we would dare to say that all parents of both bio and adopted children would agree with us.  Yes, we will treat them differently due to their different needs, but this is no different to parenting more than one bio child, as every child has their own unique needs.  However we will love them both the same, and we think the process that we go through and the length of time that we wait to adopt a child already shows the beginnings of love for our (as yet unknown) child.

What happens if the birth mother wants the child back
?
Before a child is made available for adoption, the government of the relevant country makes sure the child either has no known parents or family, or that the parents/family have signed over their rights to the child.  Of course, this doesn't mean that the adoptee won't want to find their birth family in the future, however in the case of adopting from China, this is fairly impossible, as the child was abandoned and is of unknown origins.

You shouldn't take the child away from their birth culture
.
Obviously the best choice would be for the child to remain with their birth family.  However if the child is available for adoption, then it has been determined that this is not a viable option.  The next best option is for the child to be adopted within their own country - and this is the option that each country tries first before the child becomes available for intercountry adoption (one of the reasons why young babies are not available, as all this checking takes time).
If intercountry adoption is not an option, then the child would most likely remain in an orphanage in their birth country.  However in an orphanage, not only are they not experiencing their true birth culture, they are usually not receiving optimal care so that they can develop physically and emotionally to the best of their ability.
