Obituary-Bertie Lee Rice
Bertie Lee Rice, son of Joseph
and Sarah Rice was born August 24, 1897. He enrolled in the service
August 15, 1917 at Terre Haute. He then went to Fort Benjamin Harrison
at Indianapolis and from there he moved to Camp Shelby, Miss., and was
in training there until June, 1918 when he left for France. He was
made a corporal and served as an automatic rifle instructor and was later
called to active service at the front and met death November 8, 1918.
He made his home with his grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Clark, his mother having died when he was still young.
He leaves his father Joseph Rice, one brother, Tommy Rice, three sisters,
Emma Newell, Bessine Cunningham and Mae Rice. Many other relatives
and friends survive his early death.
