Math Similes, Metaphors, and Analogies*

Recall that a simile is a comparison using the words like or as
            for example……”A graph is like a road on a map”

Recall that a metaphor is a direct comparison suggesting that a concept is a word that

quickly brings to mind a related picture --
            for example …..”infinity is a bottomless sea”

Recall that an analogy is an enhanced simile or metaphor…it gives added emphasis,

more detail….
            for example…..”infinity is a bottomless sea with numbers swimming on forever.”
