DESTROYER 666 (Australia/Holland)

Hail!! Hello there KK Warlust!! how are you & what's going on in D666 today? Also how's Australia today?

Hello, Shrapnel here.......Keith was busy elsewhere...so ya stuck with me fuckers!! We are keeping ourselves busy working on new material in our new studio. We moved from Australia to Holland over two years ago so I dont really know whats up there at the moment.....but Hollands pretty cool today!

‘Terror Abraxas’ released recently, ( I've to say I'm very sorry because I still can't listen to it right now because the album didn't reach here yet...). So, since the metalhead here get no chance to listen to it yet, can you describe to me about it? How about musical?

Its very much the Destroyer sound and style......a kind of contiuation of the Previous release.....except with cool artwork and photos. We made sure it was nice and dirty.....and vicious.

What do you really mean by Terror Abraxas, can you tell me about it & which track do you think in this album is the best and why? I think it's to ear to ask about this, but do you satisfied of this album either in musically, roduction or everything about it? Anything you want to story or comment?

Yeah the release reached the expectations we had for it. It was alot more enjoyable to record then our last full length album...our old pal Paulie recorded it for us at Voodoo Studios in Holland...and I think it shows...it was a relaxed, creative enviroment...which is what ya want when your recording. When I look back to the period of the 'Cold Steel' recording all I seem to remember is huge amounts of stress. So it was killer to get that sorted! As I said earler the production is raw and dirty...but with power…It was great to also get the cover art work and photos right this time!!! We love the vinyl versions that Iron Pegasus released...especially the limited picture discs with the cover included...class. So try and find em if ya can...?

As I remember Terror Abraxas is the first ever album between D666 & Iron Pegasus, how did you get deal with this label? Also, did you have any deal with Satans Metal as you released ‘...of Women, War & Wolves’ under them in 2002?

We had a few problems with Season of mist's art work department during the 'Cold Steel' period. Which was a shame because apart from that we had quite a good working relationship with them. They stuffed up the photos and changed the artwork....which as you can imagine we weren't to pleased with. So when our contract was completed, we decided to do a mini album on Iron Pegasus. We knew Costa and loved the quality of his releases......so we talked to him and he was interested in doing it. However it was only for one release. Since then we have sorted out our diffrences with Season of mist and resigned to them. As for Satans Metal.......Two mates of ours were starting up a label....(actually it was from the ashes of the mighty Damnation Records in Hilversum, Holland....) and asked if we would be interested in doing a one off 7"..... and we were!

Anyway, how was the latest progression of the two latest releases before Terror Abraxas, the 7" ‘...of Women, War& Wolves’ & ‘Cold Steel’...for An Iron Age?

Not sure what ya mean........ but if ya mean the progress of the music over time ....then yeah of course. Unless you are completely shit...then you should progress with musical ability and musical skillls such as stuctures and songwriting.....thats if ya practice...........even thou thats for fags!

D666 musical always changing from time to time, if I'm not mistaken D666 began as a death metal band, combined with touch of grind style, then it changed with mixture of thrash metal then you guys again experimental in Phoenix rising and nowadays I would like to attribute D666 musical as black metal? Can I? So how you attribute D666 musical yourself & why does D666 always change the music?

As I said above its natural for musicians to progress........its not interesting to play the same songs over and over. Theres only one reason I play music and thats for my own fuckin selfish pleasure. If I didnt enjoy it then I wouldn't do it. So ya have to make playing enjoyable....challenging. As for what style we really are.....? We are Destroyer666 .......we have are own style. I think that you can tell a D666 album as soon as you hear it........this is something i'm proud of...... the band its own idenity...which is something rare these days…..

D666 was really prefer to raw sound since the early ‘Six Songs With The Devil’ demo and I still can atribute that ‘Phoenix Rising’ was also in a little bit intentionally raw sound. Why did you prefer your materials to sound raw?

We have always loved the rawer side of the metal spectrum........I believe a album should sound like a band at a concert.....loud and fucking mean. And thats what we go for. Its got to have that 'presence' that gives you chills. Theres a trend to make albums way too polished theses days........lacking 'real' feel and fire. I think alot of it rests with how the drums are recorded and how they 'sit' in the mix.......sterile is not a word you want associated with music........music has to be alive.....making all ya hairs on the back of ya neck stand upright.....

What's the spirit that make you and the band still kicking till todayafter almost to decade you guys have struggled? How do you see D666 10 years from now & who have influenced D666 along the journey start from the beginning till now?

Its all about pushing the boundries of possibility, and chasing the fire that only a metal head can understand. Yeah your right its been a stuggle.......but then again lifes a fucking stuggle, when its easy….its cos your dead! We have certinly gone through our fair share of hard times..........but we have had many, many killer unbelievible experiences, that i feel very privilged to have been able to experience. Things that inspire us.......metal, pure fuckin metal!! Classic albums and killer bands......the first Slayer records, Destruction, Venom, Bathory, Beheirt, Judas Priest, Maiden, Mercyful Fate, .......the list could go on and on.

Since the formation of D666 in 1994, it has been almost to 10 years you've struggled with the band in the scene with 9 all outstanding releases . What's the sweatest things & memories since then & which material that you satisfied the most? Why?

Too many to choose from really....but something that does stick in my mind was playing Wacken open air festival to 5000 people, and the last european tour we did with Behemoth and Diabolic....we fuckin went bezerk!!!! Ride the fuckin beast!! A great bunch of metalheads........I know that tour took years off all our lives!!! Ha ha….concerning the releases theres things I like about all of em so its too hard for me to say.

Talking about your involvement in Aussie scene personally, it start in the way back since you're still with the cult legendary Bestial Warlust, actually why did Bestial Warlust disbanded? Beside of Bestial Warlust and D666, have you ever evolved in other bands? Actually, what's your origin mission to form D666 and what you aim for through the band now?

Most of this question is directed to KK so i cant answer.....except I will say that D666 aims to produce the most fucking killer metal release yet to come........watch out fuckers.

How about Aussie scene today? I know that Aussie scene have already famous with the metal act there like Abominator, Vomitor, Long Voyage Back, Gospel Of The Horns, Grenade etc and have already known with some metal legend in the way back to 80's with Incubus, Slaughter Lord, Sadistik Exekution etc. Can you describe to me Aussie scene since then till now? Which band do you prefer to say among the best? Todays band really like to be influenced from the most trendy black metal icons especially Cradle Of Filth or Dimmu Borgir, what do you think when this music become trendy now? Also what's your personally thinking about the bands above?

The Ausiie scene is full of great metal bands......it seems to only get better and better. My personal favourites are Gospel of the Horns, Armoured Angel,Grenade, Hobbs Angel of Death, and early Sadistik.......keep a eye on whats happening there cos theres some really great stuff comming up....Cauldron Black Ram is something that I also like alot. As for trendy music......I dont really care about it.....if something is popular it doesnt mean its shit....use your own mind and like things for your own reasons.....too many people seem to try and be 'into' the most unpopular things just because they are unpopular...It really is quite strange really. As for the bands you mentioned....( Cradel Of Filth, Dimmu Borgir) I think there shit, there music sounds shit and there image is quite a joke.......but these guys a business men, not musicans....everything has been thought out very carefully and marketed to a young teenage audience......these bands are really just like the local Pizzahut or McDonadalls......they have a product, market a image.....and the kids take the bait....I'm not interested in selling out for some big record company....FUCK OFF! Metal for me is creative freedom which will never be comprimised......Hail SATAN!

Have you ever listened or now anything from the scene here in Southeast Asia especially in my own hometown, Malaysia? Wolud you like to come here someday? Thanks very much KK for this interview!!! We're going to close this session, so anything you want to add & your final shout out to the metalheads here?

As for bands from south east asia...I enjoy Kratonas and the first album from Impeity......other than that theres not alot I have heard....thanks for the support, keep the metal fires buring.........HAIL!!!
