A small tribute to the ladies
of WWII
(Left)Some members of an All-Female bomber airplane crew as they waited to depart on a night bombing raid against German forces. The woman in the center, writing something, was one of the pilots. The enlisted women around her are some of her machine gunners.
(Right)June, 1917, soldiers of a so-called "Women's Death Battalion" take the military oath in Moscow under their flag. The founder of the female-infantry plan was Maria Bochkaryova who joined the army in 1914, and became a three-times-wounded  sergeant.
(Left)Red Army sniper Maria Kulshinova. She recieved the Hero of the Soviet Union decoration for Valor. The 5 top female snipers of WWII(all are from U.S.S.R.): Lyudmila M. Pavlichenko; 309 Confirmed kills. Nataly V. Kovshova & Maria Polivanova; 300 Confirmed kills. Aliya Moldagulova; 91 Confirmed kills. Lidiya Gudovanceva; 76 Confirmed kills.
(Right)Maria Tsebrzhinskaya evaded the general prohibition against women in the Russian Imperial Army by volunteering for service as a male combat nurse soon after World War I began, in 1914. Her secret lasted until she was wounded in battle, and her true sex was discovered. She was then allowed to continue serving with her combat medical team. She was decorated with the St. George Cross (Tsarist Russia's highest combat medal) for courage under fire.
