| Here is a list of all those creatures said to be dark, evil, or even mildly annoying. I have been working on this list constantly, it's gotten to be very long. | Acromantula - An immense spider (a legspan up to 15 feet!) with long black hair covering it's body, poisonous fangs, and eight eyes, the Acromantula is even capable of human speech. The species originated in Borneo but is rumored to have colonized in Scotland as well. Ashwinder- A thin, pale grey serpent with glowing red eyes that emerges from a magical fire that has been burning for too long. They live for only an hour, in which they must lay their glowing red eggs. The eggs give off an intense heat that will burn the house to ashes if not promptly found and frozen. Once frozen, they are useful potion ingredients. Basilisk - Known as the "King of the Serpents," this gigantic (up to 50 feet!) reptilian creature is the product of a chicken egg hatched beneath a toad. They are a bright green, and the males have a red plume on their heads. The basilisk possesses poisonous fangs and a yellow-eyed stare that will turn all who witness it to stone. They can be killed by the call of a rooster, and spiders fear them above all. Billywig - A pesky, bright blue, and extremely speedy Australian insect, the Billywig's wings are located on it's head, causing it to spin as it flies. It has a long sting at its other end. When stung, a person can expect giddiness followed by levitation. Bundimun - The Bundimun resembles a greenish fungus with eyes, though when disturbed will scuttle off on numerous spindley legs. It feeds on dirt. This odd creature gives off a rotten stench and oozes a secretion that will eat through the foundation of wizard housing if not removed. Boggart - These shape-shifting creatures inhabit dark, enclosed places such as cupboards and underneath beds. They take on the form of whatever they think will scare you then most, and nobody knows what a boggart looks like in its natural form. Boggarts will become confused when presented with more than one victim, therefore there is safety in numbers. The spell "Ridikulus!" will transform the boggart into something humorous and defeat it. |

| Chimaera - An extremely viscious and very rare Grecian monster with the hea of a lion, the body of a goat and the tail of a goat. Chizpurfle - Tiny crab-like parasites with sharp fangs, they feed off magic. When magical creatures are not available, they will infest wizarding households and eat away at wands or potion ingredients. Dementor - The keepers of the wizard prison Azkaban, these dark hooded figures are the Death Eater's natural allies. No one knows what they really looks like under their hoods. Dementors suck all happiness out of a room and the persons in it. The kiss of a Dementor will "suck out the soul" of the victim, leaving them a souless, empty shell. Doxy - A small creature, much like a fairy, with beetle-like wings, dark black hair all over its body, an extra set of arms and legs, and venomous teeth. Dragon - Large, winged, fierce, fire breathing reptiles. *See The Eternal Lady's Dragon Guide * Dugbog - North American swamp dweller camoflauged to look like a log that often ravages Mandrake crops. Not too much of a threat, though it's sharp teeth could do you ankles some damage. Elves - Tricky little creatures that live in the forbidden forest, holding midnight feasts and playing pranks on travellers. Erkling - German elf with a high pitched cackle. Entices children away from their parents to eat them. |

Erumpent - Large African beast with incredible strength and think, spell-resistant hides. Grey and horned, it can be mistaken for a rhino at a distance. Their horns can puncture almost anythign and contains a fluid that causes whatever is injected with it to explode. Flesh-Eating Slugs - These slugs infested the cabbages at Hogwarts. Fwooper - Brightly plumed (orange, pink, lime green, or yellow) African bird whose song will eventually drive listeners insane. They can be and are kept as pets, but silencing spells must be cast regularly on them. Ghoul - A very ugly creature, something like a slimy, buck-toothed ogre, of little intelligence. They aren't too dangerous, and usually reside in attics or barns where they throw things around, groans, and bang on pipes. Giant - These immense human-like beasts are known for their violent, savage nature, and little intelligence. They assisted the Dark Lord in muggle-killings during his first rise to power. Gnome - A common garden pest in Europe and North America, with potato-shaped heads and bony feet. Graphorn - A purpley greybeast with a humped back, large horns, and thick four-toed limbs. The Graphorn lives in mountainous areas of Europe. They are extremely agressive, and their hides are even tougher than a dragon's! Griffin - Originally from Greece, these fierce beasts have the hindquarters of a lion and the forelegs, head, and wings of an eagle. They feed on raw meat and are very difficult to tame. Grim - A large black dog that haunts graveyards and is seen as an omen preceding death. Grindylow - A pale, horned water demon that is quite hostile to both wizards and muggles, though merfolk have tamed them. Hinkypunk - A one-legged creature the lives in bogs and swamps. It carries a lantern and will lead travelers astray in the fog Horklump - Originally from Scandinavia, they resemble pink mushrooms with wirey black bristles. They invade gardens and will have taken over even large yards within a few days. They are exceedingly hard to exterminate. Imp - Wingless pixie-like pests native only to England and Ireland. They amuse themselves by pushing or tripping the unwary. Jarvey - These little annoyances look like overgrown ferrets and live underground, hunting knomes, moles, and rats. They speak in a constant stream of rude phrases, though any intelligent conversation is beyond them. Kappa - These Japanese water demons resemble scaly monkeys with webbed hands. They have a ring of matted hair around their head, within which is a hollow full of water. If the water splashes out, the Kappa will be rendered harmless. They live in ponds and strangle those who venture into them to drink their blood. They can sometimes be persuaded not to harm a person if they are thrown a cucumber with the person's name carved into it. Kelpie - A water demon from Britain and Ireland that can change it's shape at will, usually taking that of a horse. It will lure you onto its back and then plunge into the depth to feed on you flesh. They can be overcome only if bridled. The world's largest, and best known, kelpie, resides in Loch Ness, Scotland. Knarl - Another garden pest, it is impossible to tell them from a hedgehog. The only difference is this: If left a treat of food, the Knarl will think it is trying to be lured into a trap and will ravage the garden. Leprechaun -A mischievous little creature, they can grow up to 6 inches and are greenish in color.They dwell in forests and eat leaves.They are capable of human speech, and create a goldlike sibstance that vanishes within a few hours Lethifold - A very rare monstrous creature that dwells in tropical ares.It resembles a black cloak about half and inch thick, sometimes more if it has just digested a victim.They seek out their prey at night, while they are sleeping, and suffocate them to death. After, there is no trace of the victim. The Lethifold can only be defended against using a Patronus. Lobalug - A ten inch long creature that lives at the bottom of the North Sea. A simple creature, it is merely a rubbery spout and a venom sac. You can easily see how it defends itself. Mackled Malaclaw - A lobsterish creature that dwells on rocky European coatlines. It should not be eaten lest you desire a fever and a rash. The bite of a Malacaw will cause you to be unlucky for about a week. Mandrake - This is really not a creature but a plant. When pulled from the ground, it reveals a very ugly, screaming baby at its end. When the mandrake is young, the cry will merely stun you, but when fully mature, it will kill you. Manticore - Another deadly Greek beast, the Manticore a man's head, a lion's body, and a poisonous scorpion's tail. Nogtail - A demon of rural Europe, Russia, and America, they appear to be stunted piglets. They will suckle alongside a sow's piglets and bring blight upon the farm unless chased off the property by a pure white dog. Nundu - Considered by some to be the world's most dangerous beast, the Nundu is a gigantic leopard that moves silently through the night, breathing disease strong enough to wipe out entire viliages. They have never been defeated by less than a hundred powerful wizards working together. Pogrebin - A short, hairy russian demon with an oversized grey, bald head that looks like a rock. It will follow travelers staying in their shadow, and after a while, the person will begin to feel despondant and depressed, and very weary. When they stop to rest out of despair, the Pogrebin will attempt to devour them. Quintaped - An extremely dangerous beast that lives only on the unplottable Isle of Drear on the Northern tip of Scotland. Thick reddish-brown hair covers their rotund bodies, supported by five hairy limbs ending in club feet. They are carnivorous and have a particular taste for human meat. Red Cap - Creatures that dwell in the crevaces of battle fields, or wherever there has recently been bloodshed. Runespoor - A bright orange and black three-headed snake from the African country of Burkina Faso. Salamander - A small blue or scarlet lizard that lives in fire and feeds on flame. If fed pepper, they can suvive for up to 6 hours out of the fire, but they will only live as long as the fire from which they sprang burns. Sea Serpent - A huge snake with a horselike head that reaches up to a hundred feet, dwelling in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Meditteranean Seas. Shrake - Spined fish that shred the nets of muggle fishermen. Sphinx - An egyptian beast with a woman's head on a lion's body.They are very clever and highly intelligent, and love to tell riddles. They were created as guards, adn will only attack only if they think what they are guarding is in danger. Troll - These primative creatures resemble large, severely malformed humans, but with nothing of the intelligence. They can grow up to 12 feet tall and weight up to a ton.They originated in Scandinavia but today live all over Europe. There are three kinds: river, mountain, and forest. All are quite violent, extremely stinky, and to be avioded if at all possible. Vampire - Everyone's favorite quasi-human people of the night, vampires are well known (and feared) because they feed on the blood of other creatures. Vampires cannot tolerate sunlight, hence their habit of arising only once the sun has set. In muggle mythology, vampires can be warded off with crosses and garlic, amongst other things. Of course, we know better, don't we? Werewolf- Werewolves are found all over the world. Normal humans for most of the month, they will go into a wild and highly dangerous state when under the influence of the full moon. They are particularly dangerous because they will seek out humans as opposed to other prey. Normal wizards (or muggles) can become werewolves only when bitten.Though there is no cure, potions have been developed to relieve the worst of the symptoms. Yeti - The Yeti originated in Tibet, where it lives in the mountains. They stand up to 15 feet and are covered in thick, pure white hair, and are thought to be related to the troll. No one has ever gotten close enough to study the Yeti in depth, as it will devour anything that crosses it's path. It can be held off by a skilled wizard, and fears fire. |
