  • we push things out of our head that we don�t want to be happening 
  • defense against reality
  • denial through isolation
  • "I�m not really going to die�this is just a minor illness."
  • "I don�t think that doctor knows what he�s doing."
  • "I know I can beat this."
  • end of denial is associated with the

  • this may go to anyone including the doctors and God
  • may be angry at the dead
  • "Why me?"
  • "Why is this happening?"
  • Anger may grow out of fear

  • make a deal with God
  • Temporary truce
  • Many bargains revolve around treatments
  • Most bargains go unnoticed and remain secrets

  • hope is gone
  • detached from reality

  • acknowledge the fact of death
