Shock and Denial
- we push things out of our head that we don�t
want to be happening
- defense against reality
- denial through isolation
- "I�m not really going to die�this is
just a minor illness."
- "I don�t think that doctor knows what
he�s doing."
- "I know I can beat this."
- end of denial is associated with the
Anger
- this may go to anyone including the doctors
and God
- may be angry at the dead
- "Why me?"
- "Why is this happening?"
- Anger may grow out of fear
Bargaining
- make a deal with God
- Temporary truce
- Many bargains revolve around treatments
- Most bargains go unnoticed and remain secrets
Depression
- hope is gone
- detached from reality
Acceptance
- acknowledge the fact of death
