Hold their hand/touch them

like sharing..." (Starting a sentence in this way gives them some
control.)
Give messages nonverbally
"How did you get through
other losses?" (Looking for coping mechanisms)
Making plans together (Again,
helping to give them some power)
What's the worse thing that
could happen?
Be honest.
Have them draw a picture to
share meaning with you.
Be real with them.
Most importantly: Find out from the patient what do
they want NOW? From WHOM do you want it? WHEN do you want it?
