Hidden Heartache

I stray into a memory
That’s faded from my mind
I stand here in a memory
That’s been erased with time
I look upon the little boy
That I used to be
I glance down at the lonely boy
That no one else can see
It pains my heart
This image does
It breaks my heart
The long lost cause
I know his pain
From long ago
I’ve buried it
So deep below
I say good-bye
And close my eyes
I let apathy
Be my alibi
But deep inside
I know the truth
That I am still
This troubled youth

AUTHOR'S NOTES: I was going to write a short piece about Squall seeing himself in time compression, but somehow it turned itself into a poem. I know it’s rather vague, so I’ll take some time to explain it. Squall is in time compression looking at himself crying over the loss of Ellone. He can’t actually remember the memory because of his extensive GF use, but, nevertheless, it has stayed with him throughout the years, affecting the way he acts and thinks. He’s still afraid of getting hurt by allowing anyone inside his heart again, even though he can’t remember the exact reason why that is.
