Allahabad
Allahabad is a very important city of India. To feel how important this city is, just imagine, if it was not there, so many fields would have lost their best people from them. Can one imagine indian polity without J.L.Nehru, Indira Gandhi, V.P. Singh, Chandrashekhar, H.N. Bahuguna, Moti Lal Nehru and  P.D.Tondon, and also M.M.Joshi, Rajju Bhaiya and Ashok Singhal or a bollywood without Amitabh Bachchan or hindi literature without Prem Chand, Nirala, Mahadevi Verma, Dharmveer Bharti, KanhaiyaLal Nandan, Kamleshwar, Dr. Rahi Masoom Raza, Amarkant, Jainendra ... This is just a snapshot, the list of fields and persons from those fields is endless. Click here if you are interested in detailed list.
The biggest ( also the biggest ever) human gathering in the world, the MahaKumbh takes place here only. It is here that people come from all over India, and abroad to immerse the urns of their dead relatives in the waters of the holy Sangam, where Ganga and Jamuna, two of India's most important rivers meet each other and the mythical Saraswati to make the city such a holy and pilgrim place that it is refered to as TeerthRaaj (The King of Pilgrimage Places).
It is also an important center of education with the Allahabad University, MNR Engineering College, IIIT and SN Medical college situated here. Students come here from far off places to prepare for the competetive exams of IAS and PCS (the dream career in hindi heartland).
Another fact, though not that well known, adding to Alld's importance is that yours truly belong to it, and loves to belong to it.
Jab baat allahabd ko describe karne ki aayee hai to mere se angrezi sambhal nahin rahi hai ... yeh baatein to apni pyaari allahabadi (localized amalgamation of hindi & urdu) mein hi maza deingi. Angrezi mein alld ki maati ki khushbu ko express hi nahin kiya ja sakta ...
Alld ki baat nirali hai ... yahan ki galiyan, sadkein, makan, chay aur paan ki dookanein ... jinpar aapko ko din mein kabhi bhi aise log mil jayein ge, jo 2 minutes ke andar President Bush ki foreign policies se lekar pados vaale Verma ji ki chhoti beti ke kisi chakkar tak par apni tippani se na sirf aap ko navaazein ge, balki apni tippani par aap ki pratikriya  jaanne ke liye bhi tayyar rahein ge ... Saare duniya mein log time ki kami se pareshan hain, ham allahabadiyon ko achraj hota hai paper mein aisa padh kar ... par allahabadiyon ke liye yeh khabar pareshan karne vaali nahin, they ll welcome it as a prospect topic for debate / gapshap, haalanki everybody knows ki iska number kabhi nahin aaye ga ... topics ki pahle hi koi kami nahin hai ... :)
Agar aap ko real allahabad dekhna hai .. uski aatma mein jhankna hai .. to yahan ki chay ki dookanon par jaiye ... paan ke thelon par jaiye ...
Allahabad mein koi cheez agar sarv-saadharn ko sulabh hai, to voh hai time ... UP ke 5 bade shahron mein se ek hone ke baavajood aaj bhi yahan purane shaher mein the only mode of transport is, cycle ricksha ... that does'nt mean ki naye ilaaqon mein taxis chalti hain ... naye ilaqon mein bhi, that too on a few routes, vikram chalti hai ... par kaam chal jaata hai, isse zyada ki zaroorat nahin hai. Time itna hai ... to traffic signals ki zaroorat kyaa hai ... par bada city hai to traffic signals lagne to chahiye ... theek hai, laga diye gaye ... par unki taraf dekh kar chalna allahabadiyon ki shan ke khilaaf hai ... kyaa hoga, bahut hoga jaam lage ga, koi baat nahin, kabhi jaam mein zyada der phans gaye to saamne vaale rikshe vale ko zor se aur door khade thhulle ko dheere se gariya kar gussa thanda kar liya ...  khatam kaam ...
Allahabad ki ek aur khaas baat hai, yahan ki gaaliyan ... yahan kuchh ilaqe to aise hain, jahan bachcha Maan (Mom)  kahna baad mein seekhta hai aur !@#$%^% kahna pahle seekh jaata hai ... literally ... :), baaqi ilaaqe thhoda peeche hain, par bus thode hi ... :). Dost log ek ghatna batate hain,
ki ek saahab pahli baar allahabad utre, station se baahar aakar riksha kiya aur usse poochha,
"kyon bhaiya, suna hai allahabad mein log gaali bahut bakte hain",
"kaun !@#$%& kahta hai ki allahabad mein log gaali dete hain "
rickshe vale ne javaab diya ... :)
Geography
Allahabad is situated in the northern planes on india, at the cofluence of rivers Gannga and Jamuna. The deccan  platue touches the district in the south. The city is surrounded by the rivers from three sides. The remaining side region is called doaba (land between two water sources) and it is here that world famous Allahabadi Guavas are cultivated. Though because of the sky rocketing cost of land and relatively low profit in guava plantation, the land used for them is decreasing year by year.
Allahabad is an important station at Delhi Calcutta main railway line, and is well connected to almost entire India by trains.
History
The earlier settlements of the Aryans were established in this city, then known as Prayag. Later, it became the capital of the Guptas. In 1583 A.D., the mughal emperor Akbar built the fort at the Sangam. Inside the fort lies the 11m high Ashoka pillar dating back to 232 B.C., and having insriptions of Samudragupta and Jahangir. The city was later captured by the Marathas. It was finally ceded to the British by the Nawab of Avadh in 1801. In the 20th century, the city became the nerve center of India's freedom movement, and indian polity, in the later half.
Weather
Allahabad experiences extreme weather conditions. While in the summers, I have seen the temparature going upto 49.5 C, in winter it may drop to as low as 4 C. But normall temperature in summer ranges from 40--45 degree C and in winter from 6--15 degree C.
