VIVA LISBON!  Feb 2001
i am now in lagos portugal...having the time of my life...here is part of an email i sent yesterday...if
you have time read it...  hope you stay in touch..and dont give sheamus alcohol poisioning again

WHAT WHAT WHAT!
...the last three days in Lisbon have been a haze of  craze.  On my first day here I met up with a bunch of brazilians and
they have been showing me how to party until the sun comes up....every street here is an adventure and
every bar a strangers delight!

VIVA LISBON!
Lisbon as a city is wonderful... wide elegant boulevards , plazas, basilica, museums, the awe
inspiring castelo de sao jorge, the spiral stairways and view from the Tower of Belem, Expo 98's park of
nations and the mosteiro dos jeronimos--a huge church that the Portuguese explorers would pray at before
they departed on long journeys---searching forundiscovered territory.

ALTERNATIVE HOURS
My sleep schedule has been messed up since I arrive.... I go to bed from 4pm-9pm...go to the bar in
the hostel 9pm-midnight, then go out, drink port-beer on the narrow streets, meet the locals, samba all
night, followed by breakfast in morning, sleep from 8am-10am and then see all the tourist sights from
10am-4pm.  The world seems so different when you do not sleep the normal sleep...

BRAZILIANS
I really appreciate being with brazilians who ooze a PASSION for life.  My general impressions are that
they are...  1. soooo friendly 2. tend to wear colorful, happy, bright clothes 3. samba--the way they
move to the music.... 4. singing...they are walking down the street and just break out into lovely
songs...the guys and girls.  It also helps being with them in Portugal because they can speak the language.
The hostel we are staying at is filled with Brazilians, Spanish, Argentinians, French, Canadians
and a few Americans. Such a nice mix and everyday there is an infusions of new people to talk-walk-party
with.  Now i know why I wanted to travel again...

okay the internet connection is terrible...so i have to go.  Heading off from Lisbon today--going to the
southern coast (Algarve) to Lagos .    I will talk toyou again soon!  D.
