Top 10 on Backpacking Trip to Portugal/Spain Feb 2001
and here is the top 10....

10. CLIFFS OF SAGRES
Hanging my legs off the Cliffs of Sagres, Portugal watching the huge waves pound the rocks and dousing me
in mist. (Sagres was considered the end of the world for centuries...before Christopher Columbus stumbled
on the new world)  Witnessed the pure untamed power of nature.

9. BRAZILIAN NIGHT OUT IN LISBOA.
Brazilians grabbed me from the hostel, made me mambo, samba, jive, jump and live those lisbon nights warmly. Around the old quarter--all of us--20 guys and girls hand in hand singing songs and dancing in circles on the cobblestone streets until the sun came up. Even a morning shower couldnt quell our vivicious spirits.

8. DRINKING PAKISTANI TEA IN THE ARAB QUARTER, & WATCHING THE SUNSET AT THE ALHAMBRA
learning from an actress from NYC, soaking in comfortable conversation on soft pillows, soothing milky tea flowing through my mouth, while my mind whirrled on all the topics. life, love, distance relationships, time, work, reality, irreality, disreality.  red hues of the alhambra with crisp green of the close hills and the sharp billowy white snowpeaks in the distance.

7. MOROCCO SENSORY OVERLOAD- Ferry ride between Europe and Africa. it is too complicated and crazy-wild to explain. lets just say i was accused of killing people with nuclear weapons, i had four little kids hanging
off my limbs begging for money, snakes around necks while ali baba tried to provoke it, i was
trapped in a carpet house and drugged with green tea, i was harrassed, screamed at, petted, and fed
delicious food.  it was wonderful but mentally exhausting...

6. MADRID:  PLAYING BONGO DRUMS in the Retiro Gardens in the spring SUN & WATCHING FIRST SOCCER-FOOTBALL MATCH, REINA SOFIA ART GALLERY, EARLY MORNING DANCING IN FUNK CLUB WITH A FIN and FORMULA RACE CAR DRIVER and of course the special one with 2Ys ;)

5. MONKEY ISLAND AND ROCK OF GIBRALTAR
planet of the apes and the english language... the apes have taken over the rock.  took a tram to the top
of the rock and on the way up met a friendly norwiegan The European Coast on one side and Africa on the other
a few monkeys tried chasing me and were jumping tourists trying to find some cadburys chocolate...
the fish and chips tasted soaked in vinegar, brown sauce on my french fries and a big pint of british
lager...paradise...

4. POTATO CAKE AND SANGRIA COOKED UP BY A REAL WITCH

3. YOGA MEDITATION IN A DORM ROOM
A brazilian, an english gentleman and I were taught yoga on a dorm floor by a indian native who lives in
San Fran.  We lost ourselves in our unconcious for an hour and we awoke at exactly the same moment.  Sounds
were amplified, emotions uplifted and I dont think any of us will be the same.  Spiritual superglue.

2. THE SATURDAY NIGHT THAT JUST COULDNT END
Losing all Control and Breaking loose on the dance floor to Blade cuts, obeying the bluE floor light.
"One more timE"... "we got to celebratE". Sharing Stories about a Hostel in Prague on a Las Ramblas
Patio at 9am. Hot Chocolate, Bugs Bunny and small elbow drums.  Castles, Superclubs, Glassdoors,
Abstractions, and Contractions. Drinking beer at 9am the next morning and sharing stories with a Tom Cruise
look-a-like.  I dont know if i will ever recover from that weekend.

1. FIRST TASTE OF EUROPEAN COFFEE AFTER GETTING OFF THE PLANE:
At a local cafe, waiting for the hostel opened and watching people go to work...my a  venture with so many unknowns had just begun. mone  still in the bank... Little did I know the people i would encounter, the random meetings, special moments, places, coincidences and experiences.  That coffee  had so much meaning and so much life...and so did the people that crossed my travel path.  Thanks to all of you.  You will always have a place in my memories, my thoughts, my heart and my home.
