A. Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy (PUPPPs) is the most common itchy skin rash of pregnancy. It is most common in the later stages of pregnancy, more common with first pregnancies, and seldom repeats itself in future pregnancies.
Normally we see this rash (red, itchy bumps) first appearing on the belly/abdomen, but it can quickly spread to thighs, arms and legs. It will go away on its own by 2 weeks after the delivery.
There is no evidence that PUPPPs is dangerous to the developing baby.
Treatments include topical steroid creams, antihistamines and compresses, and only sometimes requires something stronger.
Bottom line? It's not fun, but it's not dangerous.
