As the picture shows, myelin is something that wraps around the nerves going from the nervous system out to the muscles. Myelin is one of the elements of the nerve cells that allows the (electrical) message to get from the brain/spinal cord to the muscles in a fast and accurate way. In multiple sclerosis, this myelin is lost and never replaced (thus the term de-myelinated).
