Gilbert and Sullivan

Meet our two red-eyed white guinea pigs ("cavies"), Gilbert and Sullivan.

Gil and Sully were born on February 8, 2004. We adopted them from a caring animal rescuer who had taken in the unexpectedly pregnant momma from a suprised owner. Yes, sometimes Guinea Pigs are pregnant if you buy them from a pet store!

How to tell them apart:
Gilbert is the smooth-haired piggie. He is called a Satin Red-eyed White. Sullivan is the piggie who looks like he is having a bad hair day. That is another type of coat style, and is called "Abyssinian". Abyssinian coat style is characterized by multiple "rosettes" in the fur, which look like circular cowlicks.

Gilbert is more "Jim's" piggie, and Sullivan is more "Diana's". However, they both get lap time with each of us.

When they are full-grown, we can expect them to be around 2 to 2 1/2 pounds each.

Enjoy the pictures!

The following pictures were taken in April 2004.

Update July 22, 2004: Check out their new CavyCage! (Very impressive, if you are a guinea pig or gp owner).
