Demolition of the Landmark

Engineers apparently determined that even Josie's Tavern was too far gone to save. Demolition equipment was rolled in late Monday and they had largely completed the task of taking down the walls by mid-afternoon Tuesday.

The owners of Josie's and Bruffs were able to retrieve some of their belongings, including two or three safes and a filing cabinet. The only items I saw that appeared to have escaped the blaze unscathed were a handful of professional style pool cues protected in their leather cases. They were described by Bruffs employees as slightly damp but otherwise perfectly fine.

That is the Emporia Public Library in the background. You are looking East.

This used to be the front door.
