Since that time, Kassie has become far more patient and understanding with the plights of others, particularly the young shifters who find their way into the horror that is Necropolis.  There is a bunkhouse on the resort property that Kassie uses as a sort of homeless shelter for those strays she happens across be they Garou, Bastet, Mortal or yes, even Ratkin.  They are provided with a warm bed, meals and a type of 'motherly love' for as long as they need or want to remain in exchange for helping around the resort, either in the kitchen with (npc) Celeste, on the grounds or in the stables.
The list of Kassie's acquaintances since her arrival in the area is large and diverse.  A few of the folks who have made particularly deep impressions are her include:  A Nosferatu named Turlis, bastets Brian, Scott, Andrew, Cherokee and particularly, John Low;  a corax who goes by the name of Black Wing;  a gorgeous hunk of a Garou named Garm;  and a Malkavian known as The Mad Idiot.
And of course, she can't ever forget the kinfolk animal photography who replaced Sheena in her heart as best friend until her own adventures with her Kitsune sweetheart led her away, Daisy Dumire.
Summer of 2003 finds Kassie slowly recovering from yet another loss in her life.  Turning to her corax friend for comfort on so many occasions, she found herself comforting him last fall when his wife left him over a misunderstanding and a miscarriage.  They found more than mere solace in each other's arms, and on an extended trip to New Dehli to visit Kassie's Aunt Beatrice, the winged wonder worked his magic and against impossible odds Kassie conceived once more.  They were elated!  Joe Black doted on her during the early stages of the pregnancy and after their return to the Lodge they began working on a nursery for their son.  Until disaster struck once more, this time in the form of a small, unwary and unique shifter and a grotesque and cruel Spiral.
Kassie had been out exercising in the forest when she stumbled upon Dixie, an inexperienced youngster who'd fallen into the water and was shivering in the already quite chilly night air.  Unbeknownst to Kassie, the girl was also being tracked by Grim Howl, a viscious BSD.  On the walk to the Lodge, Grim pounces upon poor Dixie.  Knowing she cannot shift for the risk of losing the child, now in his last trimester, Kassie does what she can to defend the girl and receives a powerful kick in the belly that sends her crashing against a large pine into unconsciousness.  Only by the timely arrival of Brian and some of his friends did Dixie escape an unkown fate of horrors, but Kassie was not so fortunate.  She had just barely been settled into her bed when the contractions began and her tiny son was stillborn.  Joe comforted her as much as he could, but it was too much for him to loose yet another offspring and he took an extended leave of absence into the uttermost depths of the PenUmbra, leaving a grieving Kassie to put her life back in order once more.
And she is slowly beginning to put her life back in order, getting the lodge back up and running again, moving around with the daily routine of living.  And then.. there's Rei.  You know how it is, when everything in your life is going along just swimmingly, and you think you've finally got a handle on things.. and then suddenly someone shows up to turn it all upside down again?  That's Rei.  She ran into him - almost literally - on the boardwalk walking around in sokto and once she got her hands on him she very nearly ripped his head off for being stupid about prancing around in public like that.  Well, he did some explaining, and once more her tender heart gave in and she let him go.  She thought there was a chance she could scare him out of his little curse.  Right.  Things have been on pretty shakey ground between them and she's still not quite sure how she feels about it.  The kid has a nasty way of getting up under your skin, you know what I mean?

It seems like the more time she spends with him, the harder it is to, well, ignore him?   There was a nasty bout with some wyrmy beetles in the Cavern at Smithville, one she knew better than to have taken him to.  And it required a short trip to the Umbra for the both of them to recover.  The time spent here seems to have been beneficial to Rei in other ways as well.  He seems less cocky, and more sure of himself;  even to the point where, at least in feline, he doesn't put up with Kassie's crap any more.  She's seen this change and it's kinda got her, well, lets' put it this way.  She won't be kicking him out any time soon?

Not that she's ready for any commitments.  She made /that/ clear!  But at least she's able to relax and enjoy life again, without the stress of 'what ifs' and the fear of losing someone else.
