| Zagreb, the capital city of Croatia, town with more then 1 milion citizens is my home town. I was born here and I lived here most of my life. Town dates from 1094. as first document says, so it is called old European city with right. This is political, cultural and administrative center of Croatia. But those things you can see in many other books or web sites. I will tell you my way of seeing my town, what I recommend to see if you visit Croatia and its capital town. |
| First thing what every tourist is going to see is old town and all of the monuments on it. It is called Upper town and is above the center. For me the most fascinating and remembered thing to see on the Upper town is roof of St. Marko's Church. You can see on this picture on the left. Isn't it beautyfull ? Other churches as Cathedral or some other monuments you will like when you see them, but look again on this picture... this is what you will remember from Zagreb to the rest of your life, like Big Ben in London. That roof you can see only in Zagreb. |
| Downtown you can see lots of monuments. You will probably find list of them in some city guides, and as always tourists do - you will try to go around and see as many as you can. It is normal, but don't miss one monument - Croatian National Theatre. That is second monument you will remember as same as you remember Statue of Liberty when you visit New York. |
| And finally if you want to have cultural sightseeing and want to see some museums - don't miss Mimara museum downtown - just 100 m away from Croatian National Theatre. As you want to see Louvre when you come to Paris, you should see this museum in Zagreb. |
