| Handball ... do you know this sport ? It is not very popular like soccer or basketball... but here in Croatia it is one of main sports. Croatia is Olympic Champion and World Champion in this sport, so it is very popular in my country.l I started to play handball in primary school when I was 10. If I have to choose today I will choose handball again - dinamic, tough and hard but very exciting sport for men. My first club was "Borac" ( or in translation : Fighter ) from Zagreb. In my junior days I'll always remember days in club named "Zagreb-Chromos". We were junior champs of ex-Yu. As a kid I saw half of Europe with that club and I decided to become a professional player. My dream was to play for the National team, to play in the First league and to play abroad. That three things were my target at the begining. But to get to the top you have to go step by step. I was not very talented as others were in my generation, but I knew that I will success with my work. Through the years my dreams become true. All three targets I had in front of me I passed : I played more than 100 games in the first league, I played abroad in Slovenia ( Dobova, Slovenj Gradec, Ormoz ) and Germany ( Solingen ) and I played for "A" national team four mathes on one tournament in the Czech Republic in 1996. This is my statistic of my handball professional history : Croatia "A" National Team : 4 games - 2 goals Croatia "B" National Team : 9 games - 8 goals First Croatian Handbal League : 169 games - 800 goals Second Croatian Handball League : 35 games - 203 goals First Slovenian Handball League : 55 games - 291 goals Second German Handball League : 10 games - 7 goals First ex-Yugoslavia League : 3 games - 2 goals Second ex-Yugoslavia League : 30 games - 73 goals Third ex-Yugoslavia League : 44 games - 209 goals Europe Cup Winners Cup : 6 games - 15 goals Not bad history, isn't it ? In my career I played for 15 teams : 1979. - 1982. "Borac" Zagreb - CRO 1982. - 1987. "Zagreb-Chromos" Zagreb - CRO 1988. - 1990. "Novi Zagreb" Zagreb - CRO 1990. - 1991. "Metalac" Sisak - CRO 1991. - 1993. "Radnik" Velika Gorica - CRO 1993. - 1994. "Varteks-Tivar" Vara�din - CRO 1994. - 1998. "Medve�cak" Zagreb - CRO 1998. - 1999. "AFP Dobova" Dobova - SLO 1999. - 2000. "SG Solingen" Solingen - GER 2000. "Pipo-IPC" Cakovec - CRO 2000. "Dubrava" Zagreb - CRO 2000. - 2001. "Prevent" Slovenj Gradec - SLO 2001. - 2002. "Ekol-Ivancica" Ivanec - CRO 2002. - 2003. "Ormoz" Ormoz - SLO 2004. - 2005. "Ivanic" Ivanic-Grad - CRO Now I'm 38 years old. I ended my players career in Slovenia, with success in Ormoz. We forced in First Slovenian league and I was one of the key reasons of that result. Two years I was out of playground, but this autumn my friend from Ivanic Grad asked me to help them to stay in the second league. So, I said yes ... and played again this year! Now it is time to get retired. They are now in safe position and time to end has come. On Saturday, 14th May I played last game in my career. My team lost in Zagreb 33:26. After 767 mathes I said no more ! Time to retire ! I finished with 11 goals ! So, my players career is finished. It was nice, it was beautiful, I'll never forget every day of that career ! |
