This page basically suggests to you, especially if you are learning, some players that are well worth while listening to. Of course, you may say it's just my opinion, but over the course of time, most folk will have marvelled at the playing ability of some of these guys. Recommended tunes for each artist:

Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile, Hey Joe, Purple Haze, Red House
Eddie Van Halen - Aint Talking Bout Love, Jump, Panama, Eruption.
Eric Clapton - Layla, Tears in Heaven, Crossroads, Cocaine.
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Pride and Joy, Texas Flood, Lenny, Little Wing.
Joe Satriani - Summer Song, Flying in a Blue Dream.

No guesses as to who this is. Jimi Hendrix is more often than not, regarded as the most innovative guitarist who ever lived. He made it big near the end of the sixties, before his untimely death in 1970 at the age of 27. His unique ideas and sounds offered the world of rock a whole new scene.

This is the man who single-handedly took two-hand tapping to the masses. His name, one Edward Van Halen. Eddi hit the scene in the late '70s, and provided a whole new outlook for guitaring. His incredible lightning speed licks and mad capers on stage, are only some of the many characteristics of one of the most innovative players in time.

Eric Clapton is undoubtedly, one of the greatest guitarists in existence. His band list includes Cream, Derek and the Dominoes, and the Yarbirds. He is predominantly a blues player, but has been known to go off at tangents and produce soppy woman songs! (Wonderful Tonight) His unplugged album from 1992, proved to be one of his most successful albums to date, and his remaster of Layla, proved to be majestical.

Stevie Ray Vaughan, in my opinion, is the finest blues player to date. Often nicknamed 'lightning fingers' Stevie proved that speed wasn't everything. From his playing ability to his tone, everything appeared flawless. My favourite piece? His remaster of Jimi Hendrix's Little Wing, it is simply sublime. His untimely death in 1990, at the age of 36, shocked the world over.

Joe Satriani is a man known for his strange tremolo arm abuse. He often stands in the shadows of Steve Vai, but Joe has proven to be on of the most original guitarists to date. His imagination for techniques never fails to amaze, and his diverse knowledge of the fingerboard has wowed millions across the world.
