Taekwondo Camp
The semester 2 camp for the taekwondo club was, once again, a fantastic weekend for our members to train and to reinforce the friendships between them.
Activities included:
- Strength and Conditioning
- After-Dark Laser Skirmish
- Skills Training, including board breaking.
We would like to thank all those who attended and congratulate all those who broke boards on Sunday.
Transitions
The club would like to extend a very special "Thank You" to Matthew Lindsay, who has been our coach for the past several years. He has been instrumental to the success of this club, and his regular involvement in it will be greatly missed.
The club would also like to thank Samantha Curran for stepping in to the role of Coach for the Beginner Class in 2009, and to Claudia Kwok for taking up coaching of the Advanced class. Their excellent performance and rapport with the other members will ensure that the classes they take will be a great success!

Week Zero at Deakin University was a success, with many new members signing up to join. Most were trying out martial arts for the first time, but several had past experience and wished take up taekwondo after a break, expand on their martial arts knowledge, or just to try something new.
Our first training session went well, with the new members showing great promise and our returning members reviving their zest for the sport.

Taekwondo Camp
The Deakin Uni taewondo club spent a weekend at Safety Beach before the start of Semester 2, the purpose of which was to train in preparation for the 2nd part of the year and to have some time to socialise.
The group arrived at the house they rented late in the evening on the Friday. A meeting was held during which the structure of the weekend was laid out and dinner was had, followed by fun and games.
Both mornings began with two hours of strength and conditioning, consisting of a warm-up game of soccer and training on the beach.
On the Saturday afternoon, the group went horse riding. After an hour and a half of fun and mayhem, they had their lunch and went on to their skill training session for the afternoon.
The skill session went well, with old skills honed and new ones attempted. Many of the members also developed a new-found respect for the old favourite: the "push" kick.
That evening the group had a yummy dinner, followed by a night of card games and conversation.
After strength and conditioning on Sunday, most of the morning was spent catching up on sleep, packing and tidying. There was a second skill session in the afternoon during which every member broke at least one wooden board.
That night before setting off for home, the group had time to indulge in the nearby hot mineral springs. It was heaven for sore, tired muscles to relax in the steaming water or the sauna, while the more daring dunked themselves in the cold pool before returning to the warmth of the main baths.
Throughout the weekend, every member gave a short talk of a topic of their choice which was in some way related to their experiences of martial arts. The talks ranged from personal goals and revelations, right through to the friendships that are made and what they mean.
Over all, the camp was a highly enjoyable experience and the club is looking forward to arranging the next one.
