DO ALABAMA...
By Connie Peek (Jan, '02)
The first Def Leppard concert I ever attended was in Birmingham, Alabama, 1992. It was part of their 7 Day Weekend tour. I remember it was cold outside, but inside the Civic Center it was "hot"! My two friends and I had excellent seats near the stage, and when the band came on there I was, right in front of my favorite Leppard, Sav. I was in "Leppard Heaven" of course! What a show!!
The energy was high, and the place was jumping. I really couldn't believe I was there watching these guys live right in front of me. It was a dream come true! I watched every move Sav made. Every time he smiled my heart skipped a beat - it was pounding so hard I thought it was going to jump out of my chest!
I was also amazed by Rick Allen - he truly is the Thunder God! He was just incredible to watch, I really admired him. When Joe introduced him the whole Civic Center went crazy. Everyone stood up for him.
When the band started playing "Hysteria" I almost cried - there's something about that song... I was spellbound. "Sugar" is another of my favorites - I love to watch Sav doing his "bang lift" (or, as my good friend Bry says "fringe lift".) [Good cultural observation, Connie ;) ] I was a very happy girl!!!!!!
A few weeks later the Lepps were in Huntsville, Alabama, so my daughter, two friends and I dressed up in our Leppard t-shirts, jumped into my car and headed off the see the boys again. (One cannot see the Leppards too many times!!)
Once again we had excellent seats, right in front of Sav. (It must be fate!!) Before the show, Malvin walked out, so we called him over and asked if we could please meet the band. He said the show was about to start, but if we would like he would ask the band to sign some pictures for us. We said "SURE!!!" He was gone quite a few minutes, but he returned with the pictures signed. We guarded those pictures with our lives! He is such a sweet man.
He stood and talked to us for a few minutes, then leaned over and asked me if I wanted ear plugs! (He could obviously see I was the "mama", because I'd brought my daughter with me.) I said "No thanks!" and he said "But the music gets really loud." I told him "Honey, that's the way I like it!" He laughed and said "Yep, that's what I like to hear." (My friend later told me I should have taken the ear plugs for a souvenir - I wish I had!)
The band came on, and we were rocking. You know who I was watching once again! I could see a Def Leppard concert every day and never get tired of it. They put on a great show - they sure showed Huntsville how to ROCK! It was a night to remember, and we drove home with Leppard music in my tape player, singing along with the band. Both concerts were wonderful, and I will never forget either one of them.
A Def Leppard concert is a Rock and Roll experience that everyone should have. I'm looking forward to the tour this summer! Bry is coming to America to see the band with me - I can't wait! We will be rocking to the Leppards together! It will be a true "Leppard Experience" that we'll never forget!
Thanks for the review, Connie! Yep, I'm definitely hoping to (work ridiculously hard all this year, then) come and see the Lepps in Alabama with you! And I hope that all you other folks out there get the Lepp experience on their next tour as well. We hear from Madame President of the Fanclub that they're likely to do America in the summer, then hopefully do a show or two in England and Europe in 'the Fall'. Good luck with getting to those shows - y'all!
In the meantime if you've ever been to a Leppard show and would like to share your experiences with the world (someone has a high opinion of the traffic her website gets ;) so to speak, then write to me at the usual address. (Okay, [email protected]) Personally I love reading concert reviews, which is what gave me the idea for this section of the site. Come on guys - I wanna hear from you!

(I'll get some new 7 Dayish pics up on here ASAP, ladies and gentlemen. For the time being though I just wanted to get this page kicked off!)
