The Uni Video Finale (Uni Video 7)

Status: Completed June 2005

Info:

This is it, the final ever Uni Video. A sad and emotional day indeed, but as it's the last, it's time to get seriously weird and obviously a little bit retarded. Expect the same bunch of idiots to be loving their final days as full blown students.
The Uni Video 7: Finale

Technically the ninth Uni Video outing (if you dont count Uni Video: VHS Redux as a new one because its a re-edit of the first two Uni Videos, which had been edited using rather stone-age techniques) and certainly the saddest. The end of an era indeed and clocking in at a mighty 70 minutes, covering January through June 2005, the final months of our University adventure. Business as usual, a chance to try out some new and some existing ideas, swaying back and forth between student japes and visual pieces such as a glow stick montage music video which looks quite striking.

Covering various things we got up to, theres prank phone calls to the National Directory of Enquiries searching for The Doc or Indiana Jones (who must have been off raiding the lost ark), sparkler craziness, indoor stair-ball (not quite the genius off Ass Ball, but fun nonetheless) and us lot gone wacky on various vices. As this was the final Uni Video I added some emotional touches here and there, it has been a big old journey when we think back to the days when those youngsters fresh out of the Sixth Form moved into good old Nelson Six and just recently we all moved out of the house. An epic cleaning operation capped off by marking our territory with N6 and a long awaited trip to Plucks home town of Beccles for a beer or two at his famed local The Butchers.

Overall these Uni Videos will be a good thing to look back on, Im not one for photos really, instead I capture events on camera and edit them like this, my moving photo album saga spanning the three years at Uni. Just for this occasion I also compiled a double disc DVD featuring every single Uni Video as well as all the little shorts and films I made in and around my time at UEA. Looking back at some of the footage we got, I keep thinking this would be a great idea for a late-night show, say on Channel 4, not stunts like Jackass, but constructed in a similar way, either touring various Universities, or following one group through their first year for example. But nevertheless, the Uni Video Saga was a good way to have fun and record our experience as well as enabling me to hone my editing skills/ideas. These videos are fairly silly, but the actual process I go through in making each one is quite serious and not too dissimilar from the making of the various semi-reality MTV shows such as Viva La Bam. Its certainly taught me how to film on-the-spot, react to surrounding events and gather roaming shots to apply texture to the final piece and ultimately to edit quickly and judiciously, ripping through the footage with minimal faffing about to end up with a (hopefully!) quality product.
Sparklers - indoors, outdoors - always fun!
Mmm...beeeeeer...
Microwaving tin foil, yet more dangerous fun. Glowsticks and a bunch of students...simple really.
Pluckles gets ready to skydive!
