It's all gone miniDV in the Uni Video world! Vastly improved image quality with even better editing and a penchant for "The A-Team". Expect more crazy antics from the Uni Video crew - that is Adam, Nick, Simon and Tom - 4 fucked up residents of Highland Road, part of the so-called "Golden Triangle" in Norwich, England. This time we're going to break the rule that even-numbered Uni Videos pale in comparison to the odd-numbered ones. Uni Video 6 is gonna rock!
It's the final year of university, time to get serious you might think? Well, not quite...
The Uni Video saga - the perfect answer as to what students really get up to in the new millenium!
Finally, we have moved into miniDV territory � thus eliminating the downsides of working with analogue equipment. �The Uni Video 4: Back In Action� had been a let down, and The Uni Video 5 was a great improvement, but we wanted to move much further. Seemingly with inspiration from �The Uni Video: VHS Redux� and �my NIGHTMARE� as well as a nice, new and shiny digital camera, the guys were a bit more willing this time around to make a great video � especially as we had now entered the third and final year and soon it will all be over � so we�d better make the final Uni Videos special ones.
Fortunately we had plenty to film, despite it being a rather hectic semester and I was (as I always say) able to further advance my editing skills, this time paying a lot more attention to sound design. Just having some fun with some samples (from The A-Team for example, which was one of �the things� of Uni Video 6), constructing jokes by juxtaposing audio clips and generally interacting with the soundtrack much more than I had done before � now becoming a little bit more versed in Cool Edit Pro.
The Uni Video 6 displays similar traits to previous videos, but also shows the natural progression of the series. Ever more prominent in this instalment is the inclusion of the pop culture references and interests we have all had during the making of the video, trying to give the viewer a greater sense of what on earth was running around in our heads as we fell ever deeper into the pit of idiocy. A mix of our typical student antics and my music video sensibilities (amongst other tastes), but also becoming somewhat emotional in that it is all going to be over too soon, hence the closing photo montages � firstly detailing where us lads had come from in the first and second years and then finally, the end credits playing over a photo montage of where we are at now in the third and final year. For my housemates they are perhaps more as a bit of fun, or a moving photo album which they can look back on in years to come � the Uni Videos are these things to me too, but I also take it all very seriously. I invest a lot of time in planning certain sequences, editing, developing a style which is both similar, but a continuation and development of previous videos. It is a lot of fun, but it is also a lot of work when you really think about it and plot the entire process of creating one video.
Plans are already afoot for Uni Video 7 � initial soundtrack choices are already coming to me and I have begun developing an idea for the opening titles sequence and more. It is currently being planned as the final video � but as a double disc presentation, one disc for each of the two remaining semesters. This will no doubt change with the somewhat documentary-style (you get what you can when you can, nothing is particularly planned usually) as time progresses.
