The Uni Video 3: Off Campus and Off the Planet

Picture the scene 4 male students have just moved into their new rented off-campus accommodation for the next two years. Obviously, things were going to get a bit out of hand and a bit weird, and after filming all semester at any given moment, I ended up with 4 hours of footage spread out over 4 different tapes. After the disappointing footage of the previous video, we were not going to make the same mistake again (at least for this video anyway!). There was plenty of fun to be had, 4 male students living together in a small terraced house. Many drunken exploits, many bizarre moments and even some fun to be had out and about in the park and streets of our area.

The editing process was going to be long and hard if I was to use the same old VCR method. However, I had been investigating buying a video editing computer suite, and come Christmas Eve I finally got my hands on my system and began the arduous task of learning the ropes. At first just getting video and sound in at the same time proved difficult, then it was an issue of synchronicity, then an issue of rendering but all the little problems were solved inside the first week and I was away editing at a much more professional level. And thanks to being able to really edit at last, I was able to yet again streamline my techniques, taking the existing 4 hours of footage and condensing it down to an impressive 40 minutes making a nice, tightly constructed and entertaining video.

We went all out for this video, Santa was given a labotomy and raisin-brain transplant for the "Suicide Santa" skit and Scream-guy hit the streets for a little 'bit' about catching the #25 in Norwich...something notoriously difficult and frustrating to do - especially when that damned Park & Ride thing came along!

And of course I was now able to get my films onto VCDs (Video Compact Disc), which made the issue of making back-up copies ten times easier. I was now able to fully integrate a heavy soundtrack into the video and provide, experiment with precise editing rapid cuts, visually changing tempo and so forth; and to my delight, crisper credit sequences! But there was still a few issues to be solved, again the trouble with synchronicity reared its ugly head and there was still a whole host of effects still to be utilised to make a much more frenetic visual style.

The Drunken Uni Video

This was simply a chance to turn The Uni Video 3 into a double disc presentation as well as exploit the drunken antics of myself and my housemates condensed student stupidity, excessive foul language and destruction. However, it did give me a chance to try out some slightly abstract imagery for the title sequence, as well as make the actual credits more interesting.
