Great Malvern Christmas Lantern Parade

At the end of November 2007 I received a last minute phone call offering me a job for that evening to go and film the turning of the Christmas lights in Great Malvern, an event preceded by a lantern parade. Similar to previous projects I had worked on, this was for the creative/arts council of the region, to act as a record of the event and something to show the investors afterwards.

The filming itself was surprisingly challenging, the weather was not in my favour and the brief was, well brief of course this did afford me freedom, which in turn challenged me for the greater good. So, fighting against the adverse weather (in spite of which, hundreds of people turned out to see the event), I set about grabbing all the shots I could of everything I could.

Afterwards I edited the footage down into a 5 minute representation of the proceedings. Finally, just to make the colours pop and to give the major light sources a festive glow, I applied one of my presets Id created using the superb Magic Bullet, which rounded things off nicely.

While the event could have been covered more extensively, the stars didnt align for such a thing due to the aforementioned weather, as well as time and budget constraints. However, with that and the last minute nature of the project considered, it turned out quite wellwell enough for me to be proud of it too.
