BACK TO OFFICIAL PROJECTS
Kathy North

Having filmed a gig by local band The Blast with Barry Herd, we teamed up again to film a live cabaret style performance by Kathy North, a local singer who had spent a lot of time entertaining on cruise ships. We covered the performance with three cameras, learning from small mistakes made when filming The Blast we employed the solutions this time around. While Barry covered the performance from one vantage point, I kept an eye on one camera set up for a static wide shot while manning the primary camera for close ups and medium shots, following Kathy throughout the 70 minute performance.

Due to the layout of the room we had to station ourselves fairly far back, so there was a definite need for a steady hand. Despite getting the shakes in my hand the adrenaline from going live so-to-speak I quickly figured out a technique to keep the shot steady a kind of positive movement style handling of the camera (which was obviously  already on a tripod).

Barry did the editing and the final product came out quite nicely, the sound wasnt the greatest, but this was down to technical difficulties the venue was having but eventually rectified towards the end. It cut together nicely and its amazing how time seems to disappear and you go into a kind of limbo state when filming such an event. You lose track of time and become fully physically and mentally dedicated to the job at hand.
