| Dawn of the Apocalypse This was intended to be a short film, which we described as a zombie-Vietnam movie. The we I refer to was myself and a fellow film student from my course at UEA. After the exams were over, we brainstormed to make a short film inspired by our favourite zombie movie Romeros Dawn of the Dead and our favourite Vietnam war movie Coppolas Apocalypse Now. The idea came from a suggestion I made to make a skit (intended for The Uni Video: Volume 2), but soon became much bigger. Of course, as these things go, we charged into it like a bull in a china shop, purchasing props (such as toy guns this was never meant to be a serious movie) and spit-balling plot ideas. Eventually I created a tight 13 page script and was ready to go. We even got together to go location hunting around the campus which due to its 1960s architecture proved the ideal location for the modern day segment of our film. Of course, to get the right apocalyptic feel, we went out at 3am and the inspiration for shots and filming, as well as scene construction, was running high. However, this was as far as the project actually got. We found ourselves without enough time to fully plan how and when wed film it and who we could get to be on screen (a task I am still plagued by). Of course, the summer holidays came and I had to return home for my summer job (University is in Norwich, home is in Hereford). The script was never filmed and has been indefinitely shelved, but myself and fellow Dawn of the Apocalypse co-conspirator are still trying to get together to actually make a little movie sometime (hopefully soon!). But in the mean time, here are the three posters I made for this "never happened" film. |
