| Contempt of Conscience
After I was referred to director Joe Jenkins by the Rural Media Company, I became involved in this locally produced documentary or rather, the full length version of the documentary. There had previously been a short version which had done the rounds at festivals both in the UK and abroad. Work on the full length version had already started when I got on board, as I came in as a replacement for the previous Cinematographer who had to leave the project due to unforeseen circumstances. I acted as Cinematographer on the project as well as Technical Advisor to Joe. I also did some additional editing and colouring in the case of the Bailiff reconstruction sequence, which I personally directed, as it was very different from the rest of the film. As it was a reconstruction, I decided to amp up the dramatic stylisation, both in shot composition and post-production colouring. The rest of the shooting was in a more traditional documentary aesthetic interviews, pieces-to-camera and illustrative shots. Working on the project allowed me to put what I learnt during Documentary Video Production at UEA, and during work experience at the Rural Media Company in 2006, to good use. I am proud to have worked on this project, which tells a story that needs to be told the story of the Peace Tax Seven, a group of conscientious objectors who refuse to let their taxes pay for the Iraq war. Regardless of your political stand point, it remains an important issue that deserves discussion and attention, a current issue that mirrors the time before the Magna Carta was introduced. The pictures below are all from the aforementioned Bailiff sequence. |
