Cinema X

I again wanted to experiment with a found footage style video, especially as I had now managed to work out how to apply effects to the video and edit to a soundtrack, rather than edit and then simply layer a track on top of the video like I had done previously with the third Uni Video.

I wanted to make a short which was simply set out to be condensed violence. I wished to make a video which featured many scenes of violence from a number of films I had readily at my disposal from my personal collection of VHS tapes and DVDs. It was also another chance to experiment with deconstructing the image, manipulating it, changing it somehow overexposing, choosing to film sections of the overall image as well as filming freehand and roaming the data within the frame.

I then chose to edit a collection of scenes totalling roughly 90 minutes to a track by my favourite band HIM. The track was the fitting Join Me In Death. Finally being able to edit to the music allowed a new level of freedom and expression. I could now match the visual tempo to the audio tempo at the same time as trying to make a statement about the nature of screen violence.

I am not against screen violence; in fact I am for it. I was simply intrigued by the nature of the violent image and how readily available it is today, especially in a world filled with DVDs and high speed internet connections dominated with P2P (person to person) file sharing services.
