The Curtain
Looking at the lyrics, the song isn't that much, but pump up the volume on any live "The Curtain," and you'll see that it is quite an awesome piece. Looking for inspiration, I had to turn to Pharmer's. In 1987, Trey said that the song was made in tribute to Jimmy Swaggart, a well known televangelist.
First played on August 9, 1987 in Burlington, Vermont, the song was played quite frequently in the 80s, then became less common as time stretched on. During that time, the song remained unchanged mind an ending piece which was dubbed "The Curtain With," which was basically a really slow instrumental section. That was gone by 1988, but resurfaced a couple months before the Big Break. It is a tough song to find for bootleggers seeing that it wasn't released on an album, but I'm sure you can find it on atleast one of the Live Phish albums released. Happy Hunting.
As he saw his life run away from him
Thousands ran along
Chanting words from a song
"Please me, have no regrets"
"Please me, have no regrets"
Came from the baby's mouth
We follow the lines going south
"Please me, have no regrets"
Came from the, came from the, came from the... baby's mouth!
We follow the line going south!
